So we've already mentioned the custom Intatrim seats. They look even better in the flesh! Really happy with how they've turned out. Matching the harnesses perfectly and really blending in well with the overall orange and black colour scheme.
The tunnel cover also matches well and should finish it off nicely with its nice springy foam backing. Really chuffed with all this furnishing, glad we shopped around for something custom! Thanks Intatrim!
We also decided to try and hide the fixings for the tunnel cover. It turned out that shouldn't be a problem because it's a very snug fit onto the tunnel. A bit of foam tape to stop any potential rattling and it seems to fit like a glove. I guess time will tell, it may be that we have to improvise something if it does rattle loose (perhaps velcro?) but for now, it seems ok!
So to actually fit the seats (we went for adjustable runners because Kathryn has really short legs), and to do this we ended up drilling new holes in the floor tray. Perhaps the pre-formed holes are for the GBS runners, who knows? No big deal, a bit of a session with a ruler and a paint pen and we were up and running. We've tried to set the seats so that they are directly over the runners in their most commonly used position and allow plenty of adjustment so that we can both comfortably drive the car.
We lined up the seats by chocking them in with some plywood in plastic bags (very hi-tech!). This allowed us to mark through the holes we had made and drill into the seat bases.
Biiig penny washers on the GRP seat bases, not taking any chances there!
We decided to put some aluminium skid plates under the floor tray with countersunk bolts which mount the seat runners.
We cut the ends at 45 degrees in the hope that when we do inevitably hit a speed bump, they slide nicely over and don't trash anything... you can but try these things!
And that's it! They're in! Really pleased with them, they should look really good once the harnesses are in too.
We appear to be just(!) on the IVA limit of min. 450mm from the seat base (with the weird calibrated block thing we replicated using a bit of 4x2 and some shims) to the shoulder harness points. Hopefully, we will get a pass based on this - otherwise, we might have to drop the runners out for IVA and mount the seats directly to the floor. We'll see!
Will from the GBS Facebook group was kind enough to send us some .STL files for a handbrake and gear lever gaiter surround. Matt 3D printed them, but they didn't quite suit the curves we were hoping for, so we are designing some new ones in the background, watch this space! I'm sure once they're done, Matt will be happy to share the designs with anyone that wants them!
Edit: 3D printing info and files available here!
