So it has been ages since we took the engine out of the Shazda and stripped it down. The main delay was waiting for the kit to come so we could match the orange for the cam cover. All the replacements bits and pieces came literally next day from Euro Car parts. Remember never buy at full price from ECP, there's always a discount code that probably gets you between 99-99.8% discount!
We decided to replace the water pump, timing belt, thermostat, oil filter, crankshaft belt pulley (the built in rubber damper was pretty perished) and the rocker cover gasket. Don't underestimate the number of bolts and gaskets you will need to get it back together! The Haynes manual has all the information you need fortunately.
Bit of a clean up of the intake mating face. Probably filled the engine with brass bristles - but hey, we've got a hoover...
Pretty cam cover on. Lots of chasing torque values round in circles..!
The magic VVT gubbins on including the 'tee' from GBS allowing you to use an oil pressure sensor for the warning light and another sensor for the Emerald ECU
Pretty top down shot
Kathryn manufactured a top mount bracket for the new Powerlite alternator
The new teeny tiny alternator with orange ATR pulley - cute!
Slight spanner in the works when it turned out the thread had rusted out of a couple of the engine mount bolt holes that hadn't been used in the last 17 years.
Then another spanner in the works when this happened immediately to the drill bit in Matt's M10 Helicoil kit
Fortunately, Kathryn's dad had a 13/32 drill bit that matches(ish) the 10.4mm drill bit you need for an M10 Helicoil
Matt's engine crane comes out of storage. You can taste the excitement in the air!
Engine gets it's fancy new lightened billet flywheel - shiny!
New clutch... Surprisingly, Matt's Land Rover clutch alignment tool was useless!
Gearbox and starter motor (lovingly refurbished by Matt) is on and we are ready to rock and roll! Kids, always use rocker cover protection when you're installing such a beautifully painted engine...
