So... this week we were supposed to be in the Alps snowboarding but France won't let us in (Booo...) - so plan B has been put into action and we are spending most of the week in the garage instead. There are certainly much worse things to be doing on a week off!
We booked in a visit to see Robin at his family business Intatrim. We had already seen a few of his seats at a GBS cars and coffee event and decided we had preferred this style to the GBS offering. The advantage of the Intatrim seats are that they are infinitely customisable in terms of design and materials, you think it up and they will make it. We had a sit in a couple of their seats and decided the Odyssey was for us. Firm and supportive when you need it but also comfortable for long journeys.
The fabrics... Kathryn is the design guru for the build and she had been thinking about the seats for a few months so already had an idea in her head when asked - knowing what you want is a must as there are so many options available to you. Kathryn finds all vinyl/leather seats to be slippery when driving enthusiastically so wanted the base and the back of the seat to include a black suede type fabric to give that locked in feel. Robin sent his son off into the workshop and he swiftly reappeared with some fabric that met the bill. Off to a strong start! We also took with us the orange TRS harnesses we had previously purchased for an orange colour match. Again his son was dispatched and quickly returned with a bright orange vinyl that was a near perfect match, certainly good enough for us. I like where this is going! To finish off the remainder of the seat a leather effect black automotive vinyl was chosen. Kathryn described the design she wanted and later that evening a computer generated mock up was emailed through for approval.
An idea for finishing the tunnel cover
We also discussed having a matching tunnel cover and accessory panel covering made but with less of an idea in mind.
Robin made some suggestions and we put our heads together to come up with a simple black design with orange stitching that we thought would compliment the seats well.
I've got to say that we could not have felt more welcome by Robin and his team and it really was a great experience. We were under no pressure and he was really keen to ensure we got exactly what we wanted. We were instructed to print out the mock up and stick it on the fridge at home for a few days before pressing the green button. He reminded us that everything could be changed and to let him know if any details needed altering. Design approved and our order was in!
Now all we have to do is wait whilst the magic happens!
